Oracle Primavera P6 Implementation
Business Challenge
INL’s management team is responsible for planning and executing a large portfolio of projects, stemming from multiple business units and growing demands for major projects. The laboratory has faced issues related to inconsistent processes and lack of standardization across four separate instances of Primavera P6 EPPM, as well as excessive manual effort due to extensive spreadsheet manipulations. Moreover, the team acknowledged the potential of a comprehensive platform for portfolio, program, and project management in providing crucial data to effectively communicate with a wider range of stakeholders.
Solution Objectives
In response to these challenges INL sought to:
- Consolidate project data into a single Oracle Primavera P6 Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management solution.
- Centralize project data and standardize project management across engineering offices.
- Collaborate with Oracle Platinum Business Partner to implement Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Management.
- Establish consistent, flexible, timely, and accurate project management information reporting aligned with work and organizational breakdown structures.
- Develop standardized business processes for resource management and capacity forecasting.
- Create standardized business processes for portfolio management and a comprehensive master schedule across the institution.
- Institutionalize a standardized project delivery process.
- Capitalize on best-practice integrations throughout the organization.
Future Enhancements
INL plans to further enhance its project management capabilities by providing additional training to raise the overall project management maturity level across the laboratory. The laboratory also intends to upgrade the P6 environment to Release 8.x contingent on the compatibility of the Cobra system integration. Furthermore, the implementation of risk management training and deployment is being considered as a future enhancement.
