BP Alaska was advancing the Liberty Project, a complex offshore development in the Arctic Ocean. The project involved innovative drilling technology and the construction of facilities to support the development of six wells from a single offshore rig.

The first well was planned to be one of the longest horizontal wells ever drilled, with subsequent wells setting new industry benchmarks for horizontal drilling. Given the project’s technical complexity and ambitious schedule, BP lacked the specialized scheduling resources required to develop and maintain a detailed, integrated project schedule. To address this critical gap, BP engaged IMS.

Solution

IMS partnered with BP to deliver comprehensive scheduling support throughout the project lifecycle. IMS led the development of Level 2 and Level 3 schedules and integrated contractor Level 4 schedules to establish a fully integrated master schedule.

Working closely with BP project leadership and contractors, IMS ensured alignment across all project stakeholders and maintained the integrity of the schedule throughout execution. IMS provided ongoing schedule management and oversight through project completion, enabling effective planning, coordination, and control.

Impact

With IMS support, the BP Liberty Project team successfully executed and completed the project, maintaining schedule alignment across a highly complex and technically demanding development. IMS’s involvement helped ensure schedule transparency, improved coordination, and supported successful project delivery.
