Primavera P3 and Cost Management Implementation
Business Challenge
- BWXT Pantex was managing their large portfolio of projects for the NNSA using a combination of Primavera software and a legacy financial system.
- Given the number of complex projects, BWXT needed to replace the existing financial system and current Primavera software with a solution that would be easily supported long-term.
- In addition, BWXT had an objective of implementing an ANSI/EIA Standard-748-1998 management system by the end of fiscal year 2005.
Solution
BWXT elected to upgrade the existing Primavera system and implement Primavera Cost Manager to replace the legacy financial system. Innovative Management Solutions, Inc. (IMS) assisted BWXT through the process of upgrading and replacing the existing systems. IMS applied its system implementation methodology to ensure a solution that would fit BWXT’s needs. Including: procedures, reports and data structures to support optimized business practices.
- The implementation process included:
- Developing an implementation strategy and plan
- Defining requirements
- Configuring a prototype, including procedures, and outputs
- Conduct performance testing, Functional Testing and User Acceptance Testing
- Conducting a Pilot Rollout to the general user community
Impact
At the end of the engagement, BWXT Pantex was up and running with business processes that were optimized to meet their needs, and with a project management system that met management’s information needs with respect to resource allocations, scheduling, and cost performance.
