Business Challenge

CSX Transportation (CSX) has identified the need to improve its project and project portfolio management processes. This implementation will satisfy the need to begin deriving value for the CSX D&C organization by leveraging the acquisition of technology solutions from Oracle (Primavera Project Management and Contract Management).

This project management solution implementation is divided into three (3) releases, to leverage a “crawl, walk, run” philosophy. This philosophy minimizes the cultural change impact on the end users by introducing functionality in a methodical manner. The release-based approach consists of deployment of specific project management software areas, or items of functionality, through multiple, phased “releases.” A release is intended to define, design, configure, implement, test and package for deployment specific areas of the Oracle Primavera tool set, along with the associated processes, procedures and reporting mechanisms. The technical infrastructure set-up, initial software installation, basic configuration, and system administration infrastructure are included in the first release.

  • Develop and implement standardized business processes relating to managing projects  Develop standardized project templates.
  • Train users in the application of the new business processes and the related tools, i.e. P6 and CM.
  • Integration with Oracle Projects for capture of actuals.
