Business Challenge

As an organization, Carbon America is relatively new to managing projects. Challenges range from having little in the way of documented processes and tools to having a team of project managers who, while very strong in technical skills, are new to managing projects. Couple that with a limited number of highly specialized staff who are shared among projects and the problems associated with making sure the right resources are working on the right scope, at the right time multiply. Senior Management has previous experience with IMS and engaged IMS to help resolve these issues.

Solution
Carbon engaged IMS to help guide the management team with respect to Project Management best practices, configure Primavera P6 EPPM to meet their specific business needs, train the users, develop methods for managing resources as they are allocated to multiple projects, and to provide management with the visibility they need to make wise, well-informed decisions on their projects.

Impact
Carbon America has completed migrating the projects they had in MS Project to P6 and is now planning all their work In P6. IMS worked with Carbon America to configure P6 to support their business needs and is currently hosting P6 on IMS’ Cloud. Carbon America is managing their projects in P6. Resources are being allocated to the appropriate work in the appropriate projects and are kept informed regarding what they are expected to work on. As project plans are completed, and progress is claimed, projects are included in the ProjectInfoCenter Dashboards to provide visibility to upper management. IMS continues to play a role in continuously improving the business processes and is in the process of implementing ProjectInfoCenter Dashboards.
