MPX Expansion - Phase 1

The MPX-1 Project was the expansion of British Petroleum's Milne Point oil production facilities to triple production capacity. This project had a 24 month total duration with the most critical part being a complete facility shutdown for a four week period to tie in new equipment and perform maintenance and modifications on existing equipment. The project had been experiencing difficulties bringing together schedules for all facets of this upcoming shutdown.

IMS was called in approximately four weeks prior to this shutdown and given the challenge of tuning around the current situation and regaining project visibility for BP management.

Solution

By assimilating with the existing project team and maximizing use of existing information, IMS was able to develop project schedules for Operations Safeouts, Well Pad Decommission, Maintenance, Well Pad Tie-ins, Commissioning and Operations Start-up procedures, as well as integrating the primary contractor's construction schedule into a single Master Schedule. IMS provided daily updates to the project schedule to keep the management team aware of the progress on critical path elements.

Impact

This schedule provided the client with the project awareness they were lacking and the assurance that they had a reasonable and achievable scope of work. It also provided them with an extremely effective management tool during execution, which resulted in a very smooth and efficient shutdown effort.
